Transportation of Used Nuclear Fuel

A question often asked regarding the transportation of nuclear waste is, "How safe is the transportation of nuclear waste?" According to transportation experts, the answer is very safe. In fact, in over 3,000 different nuclear waste transports, (containing high-level nuclear waste) not a single shipment has had a radioactive release. Nuclear waste is moved only after being approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and meeting State and Federal transportation regulations.
