How safe is the transportation of nuclear waste? According to transportation experts, nuclear waste transport is very safe. In fact, in over 3,000 different nuclear waste transports (containing high-level nuclear waste), not a single shipment has had a radioactive release. Nuclear waste is moved only after being approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and meeting State and Federal transportation regulations.
